I didn't go down to the art dungeon last night like I thought I was going to. I had that glass of wine and got so sleepy! I guess I should have, because all night long I was dreaming of beautiful scenes that involved arched walls, roses on vines, fairies and rainbows! I wish I could draw what I see. Hmmmmm.....maybe I can try.
Looking out the window I am reminded of Shelly's post at "What's Going On With Us", talking about the need to see green leaves and flowers again. Spring is teasing us so badly right now. Some daffodils are out, but not blooming, up on the mountain yet. I am about an hour and half from my sister Molly, and at this time of year we talk back and forth pretty often about what's blooming and what isn't! It is so hard for me because she is south of me, and that puts me a few weeks behind her in the garden. She will call and say "the Hepatica is blooming, the Sudafed Rose is blooming it's head off" now, it's not reaaallly called that, we nicknamed it that, it's real name is Rose Zephrine Drouhin, but that is too hard to pronounce and we like "Sudie" better. Hers really does bloom it's head off, mine almost died! Now I'm left with a sucker from it, and I hope that sucker makes it this year!!! I will confess to another obsession I/we have.... we love to rescue native plants. That is another reason why it is so hard to wait until spring. I am so excited thinking about all the things I planted last year and looking forward to their arrival. You will be seeing some of them too. Lots of garden pictures to come!
It's time for some coffee, and my cat Pearl, is headbutting me over the keyboard....I guess maybe they might want to eat! Have a good day today and I'll see yall later!
Took a while on this one. I was having one of those days....where nothing worked and I didn't like anything I did, you know what it's like. Hubby called me and I guess he could tell I was stressed out. He said "you just need to go take a drive and get away for a little bit, then you will be okay"...I really didn't want to do that because I hadn't been working on it very long, but I had a headache, and knew that it was time to walk away. So I did, and grabbed my keys and fled out of there on "two wheels" and I went and got something to eat and parked my car and just sat there eating and watching the traffic. It was nice actually. I began to envision how I could be a good private investigator! Looking at the people driving by...where were they all going, where had they been, what was going on in their lives? Then I finished my chicken wrap, started the car, and went home and everything was perfect again. Hubby was right, he knows me so well. Have a good day!
I finally got back down to the art area to make my Collage Play With Crowabout collage. Nancy gave us some great images to use this week!
I bought some watercolor paints I thought I would experiment with last night. It didn't go so well! I don't really know how to use them yet. I also bought two new paint pens. A bright yellow and a red one. I bought these colors because in normal markers, those colors never seem to be opaque enough, especially in collaging or journaling, over a painted surface. I have some opaque markers by Marvy (I believe) that I tend to use most of the time in my collages, for that reason. Anyhow, I got all ready to use the two new ones I bought and you know how you have to shake them and then open them and press down until the paint comes?? Well with the yellow one, it never did come!!! The point is now flat, so now it would'nt matter if the paint did come out!! I was so mad! The red one worked though! :D
Why does everything break or screw up at the same time? Yesterday I woke up, turned on the computer and the keyboard was dead. I got the flashlight, layed under the table amid the dust and ladybugs and my cat Pearl swirling around my face and swatting me in the face with her tail, and unplugged it, plugged it back in, rebooted....still didn't work. Called hubby and told him I was on my way to buy a new one. You would have thought I was telling him that I was going to buy a new computer or a new car even. He said he thought he could get one from work or knew someone who had some. I said I didn't care where he got it, just get it. So yesterday I layed low since I couldn't type anything! I did find an online keyboard I could henpick with my mouse! Can yall imagine ME trying to type like that??? Oh well, no worries now, I got up this morning, turned on the computer, it's working again!!! I told him to get the new one anyhow, because yall know if I told him nevermind it would quit working the next day! See yall later! x0x0x
As a follow up to my last post I must tell you two stories that my sister Molly reminded me of, that happened when we were at Lakewood Antiques....... we had just gotten there and were walking up towards the first building, and there was this man there selling really cool furniture, the type that is made from vines etc. We were drawn to it and so we walked over just looking around and he was having a conversation with a woman, explaining what the piece was made out of etc. We just sort of heard the tale end of the conversation but all of a sudden we heard him say in the most southern drawl you can possibly imagine, "Nawww Ma'am, Rhodie don't bend" ROFL!!!!! I guess she thought it was made from Rhododendron branch's...... I guess not!! We both just busted out laughing, I don't know what he thought, or if he noticed. Then I am so embarrassed to even tell ya'll about this one, but OMG it was so funny! I guess I must have gotten caught up in the frenzy of looking at these gorgeous tassels there, from one vendor....they were so pretty, and some in all sizes......and after looking at them for a while, I finally bought several of them, and I had it in my mind that I was going to hang them from the posts on my bed. Oh I couldn't wait to see how they looked! So we got back to my house and my sister was still there, and I got them out and said "c'mon, lets see how they look.........so we went in there and I just stopped dead in my tracks when I came into the bedroom. I had forgotten that we had a new bed!!!!!!!!!! It was an iron scrolly headboard on both ends, and I didn't even have the four poster bed frame anymore because we gave it to my stepdaughter Pam when we got the new bed! DUhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......she didn't think about it either, but when we realized how stupid it all was we both just fell on the bed laughing our heads off!!!!!! I got up somehow and mimiced me putting it on the post that wasn't even there! It all worked out though, I found places for them anyhow! Silly me!!! I hope you all have a creative fun day! I am going to get some hi-lites today! Yay! No more mousy brown :D See yall!
The History of Lakewood: The Legacy Dies The Lakewood Fairgrounds Antique Mall is not a mall at all. It is more than a place that sits on 117-acres of long-lost Creek Indian land. It was established in 1916 as home of the Southeastern Fair. Its seven Spanish colonial livestock exhibition halls were home to over 15,000 antique dealers until the weekend of October 13-15, 2006 when it closed down for good. Atlantans can recall its prior life as a circus with a huge carousel that remained until 1967. Children visited often, whether for the fair in the spring and summer months or in the winter when one of the buildings was converted into a southern anomaly: an ice skating rink. Now, after 20 years, the Lakewood Fairgrounds Antique Mall is no more. For 20 years on the second weekend of every month, over 12,00 people found something just for themselves, for five cents or five thousand dollars.
My sister Molly and I would go to Lakewood Antiques quite often. It was one of our favorite things to do. We bought Fiesta ware from "Fiesta Man," jewelry from the "Silver Lady," tablecloths from the "Linen Lady," that taught us to "shop with an eye," she had hundreds of tablecloths and linens and I guess one day we must have opened and looked at every single one of them and she informed us afterwards that we needed to learn to "shop with an eye".... we realized she was right, and practiced her advice occasionally! We used to buy old necklaces and broken pieces for the beads! One of my happiest moments was when we left there to go home and I had a heavy bag crammed full of old jewelry to take home and disect!!! That is how much of my bead collection grew. We bought trellis's for our yard from the "Iron Man" and several years later after moving to the mountains I made a friend named Susan. Come to find out she and her husband Don were dealers at Lakewood for 16 of the 20 years! They had one of the largest collections of Blue Ridge pottery I have ever seen in one spot, and many other collections.
We were so sad to hear about the Antique Mall closing.......and still are!! The reason I am writing about this is because this collage is a tribute to Lakewood Antiques and all the dealers who made it special for everyone who visited. As I was creating the collage with images I obtained from Suzan at "Thrifty Collage Artist" (thank you Suzan), I realized that they reminded me of Lakewood, and all the amazing things you would see there, and all the special things that I bought from there. I can still remember it by looking around my cabin and saying to myself "I bought that at Lakewood," I bought that at "Lakewood"!
My Collage Play with Crowabout on Flickr page .... I decided that the face, which I had already drawn awhile back, had to become "green" like the rest of the bird......but naturally I didn't decide that until I had already glued it down. As I was trying to color it in the imprint of the birds head made it's way to the scene......I may try and fix it later if I can.....it took me hours to finish it and I was sorta hoping it would'nt be as obvious in the picture but....I was wrong :( but yall get the idea! It was fun doing it anyhow, I love the Collage group and always look forward to seeing everyones pages.
I finished this journal page but had to literally go buy batteries for my camera so I could take a picture of it to post! My poor camera has had it, I'm holding the latch to the batteries together with a rubber band! Oh well, it is working. I was not happy with this page! You know when you feel that way when you are doing it and you continue to feel that way but you keep going and in the end you still feel that way! I would love to know where everyone is getting all these pretty pretty girls and faces to use in their collages. I think I need to be able to cut out the whole girl or image, I have realized I am not good at putting together the clothes, but I am going to keep trying!
Tomorrow it is supposed to be warmer outside and we are going to have a little yard day! I am looking forward to getting some things done outside that we need to do. I have Lenten Roses starting to pop up! Gotta clean that bed up so they will look pretty when they do come up all the way. I will also clean and redo the fairy house area.... when I went to the Flower Show, my friend Susan saw these little metal miniture trellis's and she said "Shelly, you should buy this for you Fairy House!!!" So of course I did! When I get it all like I want it I will show yall!! I will show you the Lenten Roses too when they are up and all beautiful! I hope you all have a good weekend!
This is a picture of our son in law Joe, who passed away one year ago tomorrow from a long hard battle with esophaegal cancer. He was 56, and married to my step daughter Cindy. He fought it with all he had, and I sure do miss him. He was my friend, my plant buddy and he was so good to Cindy and the girls. I just wanted to mention him today since I was thinking of him and Cindy and our Granddaughters, Ashley, Jessie and Emily. I love you all!
Well the eye doctor didn't stick things in my eye this time, I saw a different doctor and he looked at them thoroughly and said that the tear ducts are swollen shut from the inflammation..he thinks I am allergic to something and gave me a steroid drop and another allergy drop and I go back in 3 weeks.
It's freezing here today, when I woke up this morning it was "0" degrees! Working on a collage that I hope I finish tonight! Have a good day!
Have to go back to the eye doctor today and I'm scared. I dread it, dread it, dread it. I'll let yall know how it goes......
I tried to work on a collage last night, and went downstairs with no ideas, stayed down there about an hour sifting through stuff hoping something would spark an idea, got a piercing headache, came back upstairs! That was the end of that! Oh well, that happens to me sometimes and it'll pass I'm sure. Hope you all are doing good and that you have a happy, creative day! See yall later!
Life is good again, I figured out my blog and I'm happy with it now, and I have stalkers, I mean followers ....nowwww, and I was so excited to see them this morning!! Yayyy!!
They say we may get a little snow tomorrow, it's fairly warm outside right now! I am supposed to go into Atlanta tomorrow for an eye appointment. I had to cancel the last one because I got snowed in for a couple of days up here on the mountain. I hope it holds off a little while so I can go. It's lightly raining and little birds are chirping and it almost reminds me of a spring morning! Back to the eye thing, some of you know I have had a time with them lately, not sure what is wrong exactly but they just keep watering.....they are red and hurt....I have been on all sorts of eye drops, salve, antibiotics......I was telling my daughter Kathryn about the last appointment and how the doctor thought one of my tear ducts was partially blocked and I got tongue tied and I told her my blear tucks were docked! ROFL!!!!! Then I was crying again from laughing!!!! My family has this thing for tonque twisters and we say them quite frequently. I started keeping track of some of them too, I had to, it was the only way we could remember them. Well I hope you all have a great day! I hope to collage some today, it's just that kind of day! Enjoy it!
